I have many fond memories of the Muppets. Most revolve around my extended family. Specifically my Great Aunt Aggie who was a devoted fan of Miss Piggy. She collected dolls and figurines and spoke of her fondly. I remember watching the muppets at her place eating cheeseballs and bonding over these characters that were funny and oddly relatable. I also have vivid memories of watching Pigs in Space with my cousins. I loved the Muppet Show and all the movies. They offer comedy, drama and even romance.
The music of the Muppets transcends time and age for me. My favorite song is Kermit’s nephew Robin singing Halfway Down the Stairs. I listened to it countless times with my son when he was young. It comforted me during difficult times not knowing what his future might hold due to his disabilities. It reminded me we were in the middle of a journey. We still listen to Kermit singing the Rainbow Connection on a regular basis. I know every word.
Each muppet holds a special place in my heart. I love them all so individually I do not know if I could choose a favorite. Fozzie makes me laugh. Rowlf makes me sing. Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mahem make me dance. Miss Piggy makes me want to wear something fancy. Kermit and Skeeter are the most relatable to me. A little neurotic and trying to keep things organized and moving along. Each muppet brings their uniqueness to the world and I adore them all.
I wish the Muppets were prevalent in Disney parks. They bring me so much joy. I am so grateful that before Muppets 3D closed I got to experience it with my cousin. I will miss it dearly, and I look forward to them starring in the Rockin’ Roller Coaster and hope I get to experience it in 2026 when it opens.
The Muppets are more than nostalgia for me. I am here for all the renditions. Beyond the Muppets, I love Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street. What draws me to all of these characters? Is it their mix of animal and human qualities? Their friendships and propensity for getting into trouble? Probably all of that and more. For now I am left to wonder, am I a man or am I a Muppet? Hopefully, I am a Muppet of a Man.
I will miss taking my photo at Miss Piggy's Fountain
